Coveted recipe
secret to good batter
One
doesn’t have to travel all the way to the
United Kingdom to experience delicious tasting fish and chips.
The Old Style
Seafood House, nestled in the heart of Aldergrove, cooks
up their famous English style fish and
chips daily.
“We use only 100 per cent Canola oil,” said Rob Oates, the proud
new owner of the local eatery, which has been a popular hot spot in the community
since 1978. The original owner ran a fish and chips restaurant in Liverpool
England. When he immigrated to Canada, he brought his coveted recipe along
with him. “It’s a recipe that really seems to have stood the
test of time,” said Oates. “It really is a guarded secret.”
The
chips have also been a big hit over the years. “Only local fresh
potatoes are used for the chips, all of
which are hand cut,” added Oates. Patrons of the Old Style Seafood House have
been very loyal over the years, with many coming as far as Chilliwack or Vancouver
to taste the popular fare.
Aside from
the fish and chips, there’s also a wide variety of seafood on the menu including: scallops,
mussels, prawns, crab, shrimp, halibut, salmon and much more. The decor is
cozy with a touch of real English character. “It’s just like being in your
aunt’s
living room, only it’s fully
licensed “ chuckled Oates. |
